Featured: At home with Rietveld
In 1936, Rietveld renovated the Vreeburg cinema in Utrecht. On top of the cinema Rietveld designed an apartment where he and his family would live. The layout was, in his opinion, the ideal living environment, one large room behind an eleven meter wide glass wall overlooking the Vreeburg. There were alcoves as bedrooms, with only curtains separating them from the large living space.
This beautiful collage of photos taken by photographer Nico Jesse in 1947 provides an almost complete 360-degree view of the apartment with Gerrit and Vrouwgien Rietveld, their daughter Bep and her son Fons.
